Polyols

Polyols are sugar-free sweeteners, designed to replace sucrose. Unlike intense sweeteners, like aspartame, polyols are a bulk sweetener, used in very similar quantities to sucrose

Polyols have a number of advantages. They do not promote tooth decay, have reduced calories compared to sugar, and can be labeled sugar free.

They are used in confectionery, pharmaceuticals, toothpaste and also in some veterinary applications. They are excellent as humectants in cereals bars, and can be used in ice cream to suppress the freezing point.

Our polyols are sourced from maize, but they are naturally present in many foods. They are closely related to sugars but with their aldehyde or ketone group replaced by a hydroxyl group, and are known as polyhydric alcohols, as their chemical structure resembles sugar and alcohol.

The Roquette range of polyols includes sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol and maltitol in a variety of solid and liquid forms.
